My Counselling Practice.
Counselling is a relationship between two people (the Client and the Counsellor). The aim of the counsellor is to create an environment in which the client can talk about whatever it is that brings them to counselling.
Having trained as an Integrative counsellor, I am able to draw on my knowledge and experience of various counselling theories in order to find the most appropriate way of working with you.
I have had first hand experience of being the client in a counselling relationship, and am only too aware of how daunting it can feel when looking for the right person to accompany you on your journey. As such, I would suggest that we start by having a brief phone conversation in which you can talk to me about your reasons for seeking counselling, and together we can decide whether I am the right therapist to support you.
I practice within a Humanistic framework, fundamentally using a person centred approach. This means that I believe you to be the expert in your life, and my aim is to try to see and experience the world as it is for you, supporting you as you explore your reasons for coming to counselling and helping you to discover a healthier and more sustainable way of being. I provide a safe, calm and confidential environment in which you can explore the issues you are struggling with, without feeling judged.
My knowledge and experience of using different counselling theories means that I am able to ensure that the work we do is specific to your needs. If during our work together it becomes apparent that we need to change the way we are working in order for you to experience the best results from therapy, then I will discuss with you a possible change of theoretical influence in order to meet your needs.

What can you hope for from our work together?
The aim of our work together would be to explore your reasons for seeking counselling, working through anything which comes up for you. Counselling is not a 'magic wand', it cannot instantly make things go away. What it can do is help you to discover what your issues are, create a safe environment in which you can talk about them, and through doing so support you as you explore and develop a more healthy way of being.
As the awareness of the affect that Trauma can have on our bodies grows, so the research into how to help individuals experiencing both physical and psychological symptoms of trauma has expanded. I have experience and knowledge of working with the body's physical manifestations of trauma as well as the psychological impact, This can help a client to reconnect with a sense of safety and calm, feelings which may have been lost as a result of the trauma, or which may never have existed in the case of those who had challenging childhood experiences.
